“Ski resorts present an illusion of security in an inhospitable landscape, but in reality man remains vulnerable to powerful natural forces. Johnston’s series ‘Crowded Slopes’ plays on this tension between safety and danger. Human figures appear dwarfed by their surroundings, in images that recall something of 19th Century ‘sublime’ landscapes".
– (TAG FINE ARTS)“Dede Johnston's series "Sensuous Snow' offers an entrance to eastern aesthetic sensibilities coupled with western modernist abstract principles. In Johnston’s work harmony is achieved through the balance of attention brought to both light and shadow that plays upon the sensuous form of untouched snowdrifts.”
– Nicholas Hughes, international artist and lecturer in Photography based in the UK. March 2014
